    ***Form groups and choose topics
    ***Work on project pitch and Action Plan
    ***All groups should be ready to present their Project Pitch on Friday, September 6th!

Objective: Students will create a plan to positively impact social issues in their community. 

Thursday, August 29th

1. Small group jigsaw - articles and activity
   ***Article 1 - "Malala Yousafzai: 16th birthday speech at the United Nations"
   ***Article 2 - "11 of the Most Dramatic Moments in a Day of Confrontation Over Guns "
   ***Article 3 -"Ashton Lee: Manteca High School Transgender Junior is Finally Who He Is"
   ***You will read one of the articles above and jigsaw the other two with a small group

2. Introduce Community Activism Project
    ***Review the assignment and begin to brainstorm social issue ideas

Objective: Students will read and discuss articles about youth making a difference in their communities.

Tuesday, August 27th

1. Journal #2 - Taking Action

2. Fall Fastbridge Assessment

Objective: Students will complete the first of three district assessments using Fastbridge. 

Monday, August 26th

1.  Small group TED Talk/video texts
    ***TED Talk : The Five Cs
    ***Jigsaw/ small group style

Objective: Students will discuss the work of youth activists and their impact on their community.

Friday, August 23rd

1. Translating the Learning Goals
    ***Complete and submit (15 minutes)

2. "The Undercover Parent" article
    ***Discussion Questions

Objective: Students will be able to apply the concept of kairos to today's society and current events.

Thursday, August 22nd

1. Digital Portfolios
    ***10-15 minutes to finish up

2. "Choosing the Right Words at the Right Time" (small group jigsaw)
    ***Read, discuss, and analyze the article

3. Translating the Learning Goals
    ***Begin (will need 10-15 minutes to finish tomorrow)

Objective: Students will be able to understand and apply the concept of kairos.

    ***Demonstrate building portfolio
    ***Create and work on portfolios (create Homepage) 

Objective: Students will begin to create a professional portfolio of their work for ERWC 12.

Objective: Students will use their creative writing skills to build a story with their classmates.
